What is Reiki?
Reiki is an energy-based therapy
technique designed to assist the body’s natural healing process, relive stress,
promote relaxation and assist in pain management. The name Reiki comes from a
Japanese phrase meaning “universal life force energy.”
How Does Reiki Work?
Reiki uses a set of hand positions
and/or light touch. The practitioner helps the client connect to the Reiki
energy, directing it to areas of the body where this energy is most needed.
Reiki does not interfere with existing medical treatment.
What can I expect during a Reiki Session?
During a typical session, the Reiki
practitioner uses different hand positions on or over certain areas of the
front and back of the body to direct the body’s natural healing energy. The
first Reiki session includes an interview with the client to assess their needs
which is followed by a full Reiki session with all 12 traditional hand
positions. The practitioner may spend more time on certain areas based on how
the energy guides their hands. In my practice, I usually work in some breathing
exercises, music and aromas in order to maximize relaxation and the flow of
energy.
What do I need to do to prepare for a
session?
I usually suggest that people do not eat
a heavy meal right before a session. If you need to eat, I would suggest a
light snack in order for the body to focus less on digestion and more on
relaxation. Coffee and other caffeinated beverages also should be avoided if
possible before a session.
